If you’re a serious writer looking for help getting your novel into submission form, a beginner looking for a little of everything, or a professional needing a report or brochure. If you want someone to write your life story or you have a great idea for a novel but can’t seem to put the words on the page, you’ve come to the right place.

  • Cindy Davis edited the first three chapters of my first novel, The Search For Power. I found her work to be highly professional, thorough, honest, and exhilarating. She is not shy about pointing out the bad parts and she also praises the good. My highest recommendation.
Ralan Conley, 3-time Bram Stoker Award Finalist

Editing
By a published author with:

  • numerous novels
  • two regional self-published books
  • four years editing for small publishing houses.
  • 150+ articles and stories in national publications
  • two years penning a newspaper column
  • references

Free sample critique: Just ask and I’ll send a generic critique of a chapter. This way you can see how I work and know what to expect.

  • Ms. Davis delivers professional, quality editing. I wouldn't hesitate to use her services again.
    J. Ellen Smith, Publisher, Champagne Books

Critiquing
Focuses on a variety of topics:

  • Story structure--scene sequel development, showing vs. telling, point of view, pacing, imagery, establishing your voice, and sensory development and presenting exposition.
  • Plot development--narrative vs. dialogue, expanding a mediocre plot into breakout status.
  • Character development--internal monologue, creating memorable characters, writing realistic dialogue.
  • Fine tuning the completed manuscript--dealing with overwriting, penning compelling openings, punctuation and spelling.
  • Cindy Davis has edited three projects for me so far, ranging in scope from an anthology piece to single title contemporary romance. She has the uncanny ability to understand what I'm trying to say and is able to provide a nudge, when necessary, to help me find the words. Some editors try to change the author's voice; Cindy attempts to discover the author's true voice.
Liz Hunter, author of "A Precious Gift," and "Plain Jane's Tight End"

Critique prices

  • $25 base price, then one half of a cent (½¢) per word thereafter.
  • Quick turnaround time
  • Guaranteed satisfaction
  • Cindy Davis is an excellent critiquer. She is honest, fair, and gives constructive criticism while keeping the author's voice. She works diligently and quickly, always open to help with any questions or problems the author may have. She is an asset to have, and I've been lucky enough to work with her on three of my own projects. She has not only helped to make my work that much better, but she has taught me things about myself that has helped me grow as an author.
Lori Derby Bingley, award winning author of
"One Eye in the Darkness," "A Sister's Secret,"
"The Night She Came Home," & "Lorelei"

Ghostwriting
I have experience in both short works like brochures, reports and press releases. And larger projects such as memoirs and fiction. I’m happy to adapt your plot and characters into a full-length novel with your name on the cover. I have an agent who’s an expert in marketing these types of works. Ghostwriting prices are developed on an individual basis, please call 603-863-5896.

  • Cindy edited the 16,000 word youth novel I wrote with my granddaughter (Lucky Penny, in production with Guardian Angel) and just finished editing A Lone Star Special (99,000 word myster/thriller). Her view of writing covers multiple, multiple layers and she catches things I would never even think to look for. I know Cindy has made a better writer of me. If you're writing for publication and think you don't need an editor, just have Cindy look at some of your work. I'll bet you'll be amazed.

  • Cindy Davis is my recommendation for fiction editor. Insightful help where needed, and those pesky little grammar problems were fixed in a flash! Highly recommended!
Rebecca Dahlke, author of "Flying Through Forty"

I recommend the following books for authors regardless of genre:

  • On Writing by Stephen King
  • Plot by Ansen Dibell
  • Building Believable Characters by Mark McCutcheon
  • Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass
  • Characters, Emotion and Viewpoint by Nancy Kress
  • As a multi-published author who has worked with several editors in the past couple of years, I've come across every sort you can think of. Working with Cindy was not only surprising, it was delightful. What serious author doesn't want that talented editor who's got it all; an understanding of what voice and style is, an eye and ear for knowing what will tighten and brighten up that scene, a professional attitude of respect toward the author? And, she makes you think, dig for what you need. If I could clone her, or kidnap her so she'd edit all my books, I'd be twice as prolific, and inspired.
