Thank you for your interest in Characters magazine (spin-off of PEEKS & valleys Fiction Journal). Each quarterly issue (October, December, February and April) contains genres in a wide range of themes including mystery, history, comedy, fantasy/sci-fi, romance, nature. We accept submissions from all, but when space is limited, give preference to works written by children and teens. Maximum recommended story length is 2000 words. All submissions must be typed and double-spaced, with name, address and word count on the title page. We also accept original art work, by kids only please. Sorry to say, we don't accept poetry any more.
Magazines are available by subscription ($14.95 yr). If your story has been previously published, please advise where and when so we may give credit.
Important, enclose short (3-4 lines) bio with each submission. Include a self addressed stamped envelope large enough for return of materials or specify disposable manuscript, but include SASE (or email address) for our reply. Pieces not including a SASE or email address will not be acknowledged. Please, only one story or up to 3 poems per submission. Simultaneous submissions are accepted if noted in the cover letter. No email submissions.
Payment is $5, on publication, plus one contributor copy. We reserve the right to edit due to space or content considerations. Characters purchases one time rights, plus the right to publish excerpts, or the entire piece on our web site. Sample copy $5.75.
